The yard line

Fire Ant Service

Active mounds treated across the yard, around play areas, pet runs and the slab edge.

Chapter 01

Why fire ant mounds keep coming back

The mound is only the part you can see. Under it there is a colony, and a colony can have more than one queen. Kick the top off or drench it and the colony does not die, it moves, and a fresh mound turns up a few feet from the old one.

Rain makes it worse. Soft East Texas clay and sand let ants rebuild a mound quickly after a storm, so a yard that was clear on Monday can have five new ones by Friday.

How we treat a yard for fire ants

We locate the active mounds across the yard, then treat the colony instead of just the top of the mound. That is the difference between a mound that disappears and a mound that relocates.

We give extra attention to the places your family actually uses: play areas, pet runs, and the edge of the slab where ants like to come up against warm concrete.

Chapter 03

After the treatment

Leave treated mounds alone for the window the technician gives you. Poking at them early only scatters what is left.

New mounds can appear after storms, and that is normal for this part of Texas. Fire ant service folds into the quarterly visit, so the yard line gets looked at four times a year.

The outermost ring, the yard line

Why the mound you kicked is now three feet to the left.

  • Kick it

The colony rushes the surface, defends, and the survivors carry on underground.

  • Drench it

Water pushes the colony out and over. A new mound shows up a few feet away.

  • Wait for rain

Soft ground after a storm is exactly when mounds rebuild fastest.
